Fighting 'Ships

An Aubrey-Maturin Series Rarepairs Community

Welcome to Fighting 'Ships, a rarepairs community for the 'Master and Commander' film and Patrick O'Brian's lovely Aubrey-Maturin series.

Often in a fandom, one pervasive and dominant pairing overshadows many less popular but often more wonderful pairings. These pairings receive relatively little press for various reasons, from negative reception due to not being 'normal' to authors and artists afraid to post their work because they don't believe anyone's around to read it.

Well, there's someone here now. Fighting 'Ships is intended to provide a safe and friendly place for people to post their work without fear of being intimidated by massive fandom OTPs. It is a place for people to hopefully find others who share their 'ship. It is a place to request and receive feedback and critical commentary without having to worry about being put down.

As with all communities, of course, there are rules to follow. Familiarize yourself with them, and by all means inquire if you have any questions! They may look long, but they're mostly common sense things, and all reasonable and easy to abide by. Don't be afraid!

//Characters and Content\\

1. NO AUBREY/MATURIN. Period. All other pairings, threesomes, etc. are welcome at this time, provided all paired characters have an established official canon, no matter how small. No self-inserts or OCs. Slash, femmeslash and het are all welcome, as are all ratings, from G to NC-17.

2. All varieties of material are welcome at this time, including but not limited to fanart, fanfiction, music videos, essays, and icons. Icons must meet LJ requirements, 100x100 pixels or less and 40kb or less in size. Please use tags, according to the community's standardized tags list.

3. If you want someone to beta something, or want critique and feedback from the community on a work in progress, feel free to post it! Just put 'Beta Request' or something similar in the subject of the post.

4. No arsehattery. By that we mean:

  • Flaming
  • Trolling
  • Bashing, of pairings or people
  • Plagiarism

If you experience any of this, please report it to the Admiral immediately.

//Technical Mumbo-Jumbo\\

1. Please include a header with the following for fanart and fanfiction:

  • Title
  • Author/Artist (lj username required, pen name optional)
  • Pairing
  • Rating (G through NC-17)
  • Warnings (E.g. rape, violence, underage sex)

2. LJ cuts are love. While your header should go to the main community page, ALL images and fics must be placed behind LJ cuts, regardless of rating. The one exception is for icons, for which you may have up to four teasers visible on the main page. The rest behind a cut, please.

3. Check your HTML. Make sure that all your tags are correct, because nothing is more annoying while reading along then suddenly having the rest of the story in italics because someone forgot or botched a closing tag. The same goes for any LJ-specific links, including cuts and usernames.

If you have any questions about anything related to the community, rules, etc., including how to do your LJ and html tags, email or ping the Admiral on IM and ask. She is nice and helpful and stuff.

Remember the rules are here for a reason, and so they must be enforced. And they will be, infractions being dealt with as follows:

1. If you post Aubrey/Maturin, it will be removed without warning. Because that is rule #1. It doesn't belong here. We're about rarepairs, after all. We love the underloved.

2. If you forget to put something behind a cut, forget a rating, flub an html tag or something minor, you will be politely asked to fix it. If you don't, your post will be removed. If you notice that your post has been removed, check the rules and you'll probably be able to figure out why.

3. If you are caught flaming, you will first be warned to cease the behaviour and may have your thread frozen. After three incidents, you will be banned. Flaming is not acceptable here; for those who do not know what it is, our community's definition may be found here.

4. If you are caught trolling, then your membership will be revoked immediately and permanently. For those who do not know what trolling is, click here for a definition.

5. Plagiarism is NEVER considered acceptable in the mandc_rarepairs community. Anyone posting someone else's work either under their own name or without giving due credit will be banned immediately and permanently.

It may seem like a lot, but it's really not so bad. Basically behave and don't be an arse, and you'll do just fine. So dust off those stories and pictures that you've left lying around because you didn't think anyone wanted to read them, and let us have a look!
